It’s no secret that when it comes to the blogosphere/social media scene, I’ve kind of been running around like a headless chicken. I keep deleting content, and starting over, then deleting again and then starting over again. I’ve realized that this is because I’m an impatient perfectionist, which is a horrible combination of traits to have, which I will talk about more below.
I thought it would be a good idea to ease back into the whole blogging thing with an easy post talking about what’s been new in life lately, hence the title of this series, Life Lately. Genius, I know. It’s gonna be a long one, so brew yourself some coffee and come have a chat with me.
Studying & Career
So at the end of January, I graduated from university and now officially have a bachelor’s degree (with honors, no big deal *happy dance*). Even though it’s currently late April, I still haven’t accepted that I’m 100% done with uni and it just feels like I’m on holiday or something. I loved my uni experience and might even write a post about my top tips if you’d like to read something like that?
Mid-March, I started my internship which I’m still working in. I work in the marketing department and I love it, which is great because I’m pretty sure this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. University did kind of help me realize that, because I’m a business management major I really didn’t enjoy any of my management classes as much as I enjoyed marketing.
I’m not really sure what I want to do next. I know my options are either further education, or getting a full-time job. I still have some time to decide, so I’m just riding this internship out and hope to have a more solid answer in the next couple of months. (Which, by the way, is crazy if you know me. I’m the biggest planner ever and this is totally uncharacteristic of me. But it feels right.)
TV Shows & Movies
I’ve always been an avid TV and film lover to the point where I seriously considered a career is film critique. But as of late, I’ve come to understand why I love TV as much as I do: it’s an escape from real life. There is virtually nothing as relaxing to me as watching TV. And have I been indulging.
I have a few current faves that I’m not going to get into too much because I’d like to write separate posts on them, but off the top of my head they include:
- Killing Eve
- Jane the Virgin
I binged Game of Thrones because one of my friends wanted me to finish it before the new season came out, and although it’s an amazing show, I don’t like how intense it is. I like shows and movies that are more reminiscent of real life, and GoT is the complete opposite. That being said, I’m nearly done with season seven so you best believe I’m going to watch it to the end.
I also watched The Perfect Date recently, which is the new Noah Centineo movie with Camilla Callas and man was it crap. It was a repeat of cheesy jokes you’ve heard in every rom-com ever, coupled with Noah looking very cute and an admittedly funny scene of him acting like a grade-A douche. The story could have been something amazing but it was completely ruined by the female lead, Laura Marano. She was a bratty, angsty teen born into too much privilege and everything that came out of her mouth made me either yawn or gag. So I would recommend it if you’re lonely on a Saturday night with nothing better to do, but otherwise it’s best to stay away.
Fashion & Beauty
I cleared out my wardrobe the other day and I was really shocked at the amount of neutrals I have in my closet. Everything is either white, black, or grey. And I feel like I’m getting to a point in my life where I want to wear more crazy colors and prints rather than mesh in with everyone. So I’ve had my eye on a few floral and sequined pieces here and there. I also exclusively only wear trousers or skinny jeans and simple tops, which is another thing I want to change. I started this weekend by buying my first ever pair of mom jeans. They were expensive but the fit is great and I donated my skinnies so I don’t have any other choice, now.
I’ve also decided to start investing in quantity over quality. If it was up to me, everything I buy would be Chanel or Burberry or Chloé. But that’s not possible and I’m a very fickle-minded person who gets bored of things easily, so I’ve decided to buy cheaper things on sale, but constantly keep purchasing, so that I don’t randomly get bored of everything in my closet and have a massive purge, resulting in hundreds of bucks going down the drain.
I also want to buy a new perfume, since the last time I had one was back in 2016. I really want the Coco Mademoiselle, but that’s so hilariously out of my budget that it’s actually painful. Sigh. You know when you don’t have any money but you want to buy everything? That’s me right now (and always, honestly).
- YouTube has been my go-to whenever I take small breaks from working or have ten minutes to spare here and there. My current faves are Danny Gonzales, Cody Ko and Noel Miller, and Emma Chamberlain (but her older videos because they’re funnier than her newer stuff).
- My Spotify subscription (more like my friend’s Spotify subscription that I’ve been using) ran out so during my 40-minute commute to work, I’ve been listening to podcasts. The Bitch Bible always never fails to make me laugh. I have a love-hate relationship with the host, Jackie Schimmel, because she seems like a terrible person but she isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and most times she says what everyone is thinking. I can respect that. Mostly I like hearing about her opinion on pop culture events more than when she goes on tangents about her life. Either way, she’s very entertaining.
